Neil is a story and fiction writer who hails from New York City. In 1976, he left NYC and drove 11,000 miles across the U.S. He arrived in Humboldt County, on Northern California's redwood coast in 1977 to visit a boyhood friend for a weekend. It's been a long weekend. Neil has remained in Humboldt the past 40 years. He lives with his wife and their two dogs in Eureka. Neil quit alcohol and other drugs in 1982, at age 31, and enjoys sober living. He holds M.A. degrees in Teaching Writing and in Counseling Psychology from Humboldt State University, and a B.A. in English from St. Bonaventure University in western New York. He worked a combined 41 years as a family, group & individual substance abuse counselor, an instructor in addiction studies, psychology and social work at two colleges, and a sports writer for daily [Times-Standard] and weekly [The Arcata Union] newspapers.
